One-time world No. 5 Tommy Robredo posted an opening-round win Monday at the Moroccan Grand Prix tennis event.

The 2001 Casablanca runner-up and currently 72nd-ranked Robredo topped Frenchman Guillaume Rufin 7-6 (7-2), 6-4 on the red clay at Complexe Al Amal.

Also on Day 1, Slovenian Blaz Kavcic whipped Moroccan wild card Mehdi Ziadi 6-2, 6-4.

The top seed this week is Swiss slugger Stan Wawrinka, who titled here in 2010 and will meet Kavcic in the second round.

Pablo Andujar is on hand as the two-time defending champion. He beat Albert Ramos in last year's all-Spanish finale here.

Andujar will open defense of his titles against qualifier and fellow Spaniard Pablo Carreno-Busta on Tuesday.

The winner of this $525,000 tournament will earn $96,000.
