Robert Griffin's number was the same, but for the first time in his career, the former No. 2-overall pick was wearing something other than a Redskins jersey. The Cleveland Browns quarterback got his first on-field action with his new teammates during a voluntary minicamp at Berea, Ohio on Tuesday.
Griffin, who signed a two-year deal after being released by the Redskins, didn't take as many snaps Tuesday as veteran quarterback Josh McCown, according to reporters at the practice.
Griffin also didn't make his best first impression, getting picked off on his first attempt in team drills. But it wasn't totally his fault since it came on a tipped pass. ESPN reporter Pat McManamon gave a quick synopsis of Griffin's day:
Browns coach Hue Jackson also weighed in on Griffin's performance Tuesday.
"I've said from Day One, it's really the same," Jackson said. "Robert's very talented. Obviously, he did some good things, but he has a lot of things just like a lot of our players do to clean up. It was one practice, but again it was a good start. It was a good start for all, not just him but for all of the quarterbacks and a lot of guys on our football team today."
Griffin is trying to get back on track after a litany of injuries derailed his career after he was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 2012. Griffin started seven games last year, throwing for 1,694 yards with four touchdowns and six interceptions. He was eventually replaced in the Redskins starting lineup by Kirk Cousins.
The Browns reportedly are discussing trading the No. 2 pick in this month's draft. Many believed the team would take a quarterback at that spot, but with the Rams leapfrogging Cleveland at No. 1, the Browns won't have their choice of the top two quarterbacks.
