Report: Cubs ink Fowler to 1-year deal

( - The Chicago Cubs reportedly signed recently-acquired outfielder Dexter Fowler to a one-year contract on Friday, avoiding arbitration.

Fowler will earn $9.5 million over the upcoming season, according to the Chicago Tribune.

The 28-year-old veteran was acquired from Houston on Monday in exchange for pitcher Dan Straily and infielder Luis Valbuena.

Fowler batted .276 with 35 RBI and eight home runs over 116 games for Houston in 2014 after spending his previous six seasons with Colorado.

The experienced switch-hitter has hit .271 with 245 RBI, 48 home runs, 94 stolen bases and 57 triples in 783 career games.
