Anthony Rendon's carousel around the Washington Nationals' infield continues.
Manager Matt Williams told the Washington Post that Rendon, who has predominantly played second base for the Nationals this season, will switch back to third base next season.
"Third base is Anthony's natural position," Williams said. "He's most comfortable there. With the injuries and coming back, the apple cart and all of that, it would be a situation where Anthony is best served playing third."
Rendon has alternated between second and third base as his primary position in all of his three seasons as a major-leaguer with the Nationals, beginning at second base in 2013, switching to third base in 2014, and now predominantly manning second base this season.
In total, the 25-year-old infielder has started 158 games at second and 150 games at third in his MLB career.
Although Williams plans to move Rendon back to third next season, he reserves the possibility of him playing another position if circumstances put the Nats in a bind.
"What happens after that, we don't know. At this point, we can't count anything given what we've gone through this year," Williams said. "But we'll see how it all plays out."
