Benoit Cheyrou scored 13 minutes from time as Marseille spoiled the return to Ligue 1 for Reims with a 1-0 win Sunday at the Stade Auguste Delaune II.

Reims has six Ligue 1 titles and two European Cup runner-up appearances to its credit, but was absent from the top tier in France for 33 years. Reims was the runner-up in Ligue 2 last season to earn promotion.

Cheyrou deposited a cross from Charles Kabore to the upper-right corner in the 77th minute to decide the match, as Reims - which lost just twice at home last season - dropped its home opener.

Marseille was one of eight clubs to post wins in the first week of the season.
