DETROIT (AP) — The Detroit Red Wings have agreed to a one-year contract with forward Ilari Filppula.

The team announced the deal Wednesday. Terms were not disclosed.

The 28-year-old Filppula is a 5-foot-11, 191-pound forward who played the past two seasons for TPS Turku of the Finnish Elite League. In 2009-10, the Vantaa, Finland, native finished ninth in league scoring with 49 points in 58 games.

Filppula is the older brother of current Red Wings center Valtteri Filppula. He won the Jari Kurri Award as the Finnish Elite League's playoff MVP, scoring two goals and adding 12 assists in 15 postseason games.
