Red Wings F Eaves out with fractured jaw

Detroit Red Wings forward Patrick Eaves will be sidelined at least six weeks after having surgery to repair a fractured jaw.

The team said on its Twitter feed Sunday that Eaves would undergo surgery this week. His expected timetable for return in between six and eight weeks.

Eaves, who re-signed with the Red Wings in July for three years, was hit in the right side of the head with a slap shot late in Saturday's 4-1 win over Nashville.

He has one assist in 10 games this season and 70 goals and 133 points in seven NHL seasons with Ottawa, Carolina and Detroit.
