Boston, MA (SportsNetwork.com) - The Boston Red Sox announced on Thursday that reliever Koji Uehara will return to the club thanks to a two-year contract.
No financial terms were reported, but the Boston Globe stated it is for $18 million split equally between the two years.
The 39-year-old native of Japan finished the 2014 campaign with a 6-5 record, 26 saves and 2.52 earned run average over 64 appearances for the last-place Red Sox.
"Good morning everybody! You might have heard through media, I signed with Red Sox for 2 years. I am looking forward to seeing you!," Uehara wrote on his Twitter account shortly after the club released the news.
Uehara has put together a 10-6 record and 1.75 ERA along with 47 saves in 137 contests over the last two seasons in Boston. He was the 2013 ALCS MVP.
