Real Madrid coach Jose Mourinho will leave at the end of this season after three years at the iconic Spanish club, paving the way for an expected return to British team, Chelsea.
The 50-year-old Portuguese coach has two remaining matches in a season that will end on June 1 without Madrid winning a trophy.
Real Madrid President Florentino Perez announced at a media conference on Monday that a mutual agreement was struck after a board meeting earlier in the day.
Mourinho is leaving with just a single 'La Liga" title — surrounded by Barcelona successes, including this season — and two domestic cups.
Popular with fans and media alike in England, Mourinho appears to have repaired his relationship with owner Roman Abramovich to make a return to Stamford Bridge.
Paris Saint-Germain sporting director Leonardo says coach Carlo Ancelotti has asked to leave to join Real Madrid.
Ancelotti had a meeting to discuss his future with club President Nasser Al-Khelaifi and Leonardo on Sunday.
Leonardo tells French sports newspaper L'Equipe: "Carlo asked to leave for Madrid, but we want him to stay. There was no firm decision; we listened to Carlo. We have to consider everything for a bit."
He adds that "the priority is still that he remains with us. We have never contacted other managers."
Earlier this week, Al-Khelaifi said he rebuffed a request from Madrid's sporting director for Ancelotti.
Ancelotti steered PSG to its first French league title since 1994 last week.
