The Galacticos are three points back of leaders Atletico Madrid with just six matches to play, meaning that Carlo Ancelotti's men will need help in order to climb atop the table.
Of course, getting Atletico to drop points means nothing if Real Madrid cannot win its remaining matches.
And on the back of a Champions League defeat of Borussia Dortmund - though Madrid lost the second leg - the third-place Merengues will look to keep the pressure on the La Liga leaders.
It will not be easy as Madrid struggled against Dortmund without star player Cristiano Ronaldo, who missed Tuesday's second leg through injury.
But with Almeria entering the weekend second from bottom on 30 points, another Ronaldo absence shouldn't hinder Real Madrid too much.
Barcelona comes into the round just one point back of Atletico. The Catalans appear to be regaining their form after stuttering a bit in February and March, and they will hope to get their sixth successive La Liga win on Saturday when they head to Los Carmenes to face Granada.
Rounding out Saturday's La Liga action, Villarreal will hope to end its run of just one win from its last five outings when it welcomes Levante to El Madrigal while Real Sociedad hopes to stay above the Yellow Submarine with a victory at Celta Vigo.
Atletico Madrid returns to league action on Sunday with a trip to Getafe. Three points at the Coliseum Alfonso Perez would see Diego Simeone's men retain first place for another week.
Also on Sunday, Real Betis will attempt to strengthen its survival odds by getting a win from its home clash with Sevilla, Valencia will look to snap its three-game winless run when it hosts Elche at the Mestalla and Rayo Vallecano will hope to continue its solid run of form with a positive result at Espanyol.
Athletic Bilbao remains in firm control of fourth place, entering the weekend six points ahead of fifth-place Sevilla. The club will hope to maintain its grasp of the final Champions League spot with a win over Malaga at San Mames on Monday.
Friday's lone contest saw Osasuna and Valladolid play to a 0-0 draw.
