Real Madrid hopes to keep rolling against Villarreal

Madrid, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Real Madrid will aim to continue its title charge on Sunday when the club welcomes Villarreal to the Bernabeu.

The Galacticos claimed a 2-0 win over Elche in their last La Liga outing, a result that, along with Barcelona's shock 1-0 loss to Malaga, extended their lead at the summit to four points.

Since a 4-0 defeat to Atletico Madrid on Feb. 7, Real has rattled off three consecutive 2-0 wins.

Isco and Karim Benzema provided the goals in the club's defeat of Deportivo on Feb. 14 while Cristiano Ronaldo and Marcelo struck on opposite sides of halftime in a comfortable win over Schalke in Champions League play.

Benzema and Ronaldo then teamed up to produce the goods against Eclhe last time out, putting the club in good stead for a meeting with Villarreal on Sunday.

The Yellow Submarine, despite occupying sixth place in the table, has struggled to find consistency of late, alternating wins and losses over its last five La Liga contests.

If the pattern remains constant, Villarreal would be due for a loss at the Bernabeu, but the club will be aiming to reverse the 2-0 defeat it suffered to Real Madrid on home soil on Sept. 27.

Barcelona and Atletico Madrid will be hoping to keep the pressure on Carlo Ancelotti's men by taking maximum points from their respective fixtures this weekend.

The Catalans, entering the weekend in second place, will return to action on Saturday with a trip to lowly Granada, which enters the round second from bottom in the table.

Atletico, meanwhile, will head to the Estadio Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Sunday to face a Sevilla side that has lost three of its last four, dropping the club to fifth in the table.

Valencia can go level with Atletico on 53 points apiece with a victory over Real Sociedad earlier on Sunday, while Athletic Bilbao will be seeking a second win on the bounce when its travels to Eibar, which has lost five in a row.

Malaga snapped a two-game slide last time out and will hope to keep rolling on Saturday when the club hosts Getafe at La Rosaleda.

Also on Saturday, Rayo Vallecano and Levante will meet at the Campo de Futbol de Vallecas and Deportivo will travel to the Estadio de los Juegos Mediterraneos to take on Almeria.

Celta Vigo will play host to Elche in Monday's lone fixture while Friday's action saw Espanyol claim three points with a 1-0 win over Cordoba.
