There were just two playoff games on Tuesday night, but both were memorable -- and for different reasons.

In Chicago, the Hawks avoided becoming just the third defending champion to be swept in its first series the following year by routing Vancouver 7-2. Los Angeles then jumped to a 4-0 lead at home against San Jose, only to become just the fourth team in playoff history to blow a lead of four or more goals when the Sharks won 6-5 in overtime.

The action heats up with five games on Wednesday's schedule.

Bolland makes instant impact

Dave Bolland didn't know until Tuesday morning if he'd be allowed to play for Chicago in its win-or-go-home test against Vancouver. He passed his baseline test during the morning skate, clearing him to return from a concussion -- then, as Dan Rosen reports, had the first four-point game of his career in the Hawks' 7-2 win.

Luongo not worried

Giving up a six-pack of goals in Chicago is something that has happened before to Roberto Luongo. But this time, instead of going home for the summer, he and the Vancouver Canucks are going home with a chance to close out the Blackhawks. Brian Hedger has more.

Kings can't close the deal

Things looked bright for the Los Angeles Kings when they led 4-0 less than a minute into the second period. But the San Jose Sharks staged a historic comeback, rallying for a 6-5 overtime win. Curtis Zupke talks with the Kings about how a team tries to get over the worst collapse in a playoff game since 1985.

Wings have a sweep on their minds

Detroit takes a 3-0 series lead into Wednesday's game against Phoenix, and as Jerry Brown reports, the Wings would like nothing more than to head home for a few days of R&R, rather than a fifth game.

Tippett may shake up lines for Coyotes

With his team's season on the line Wednesday, Jerry Brown says Phoenix coach Dave Tippett plans to change around some of his lines for Game 4 against Detroit.

Suspensions force changes for Pens and Bolts

Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay each will be without a regular forward for Wednesday night's Game 4 after the NHL suspended Chris Kunitz of the Penguins and Steve Downie of Tampa Bay. Mike G. Morreale looks at the changes both coaches will have to make.

Emery stepping up in goal for Ducks; Preds' top line doing the job

Ray Emery couldn't keep the Nashville Predators from winning on Sunday, but as John Manasso notes, he was one of the Anaheim Ducks' few bright spots.

Meanwhile, the Predators have been getting unexpected production from their top line, which has been every bit the equal of Anaheim's more celebrated top trio.

Were Habs too loose in Game 3?

The Montreal Canadiens were loose and relaxed before Game 3 of their series against Boston on Monday; maybe too loose, reports Arpon Basu. Don't expect the same for Game 4.

Zherdev's addition paid off for Flyers

Philadelphia coach Peter Laviolette seems to have the knack of getting the right man into the lineup at the right time. Adam Kimelman reports that the latest example is Nikolay Zherdev, who dressed for Game 3 against Buffalo on Monday and scored the winning goal.

Rangers keeping Ovi off his mark

The New York Rangers haven't shut down Alex Ovechkin -- he has 2 goals and 4 points in the first three games of their series. But as Dave Lozo notes, New York is doing a good job in keeping the NHL's most prolific shooter from getting his shots through to the net.

NHL, NBC sign 10-year deal

NHL games will stay on NBC and its networks through 2020-21 under the terms of a 10-year deal announced on Tuesday. Bob Condor looks at what the deal means for hockey fans in the U.S.
