Texas Rangers pitcher Justin Grimm has been named the American League's Rookie of the Month for April.

Grimm earned the honor after posting a 2-0 record with a 1.59 earned run average over three starts, each of which resulted in Texas victories. In his most recent effort, the 24-year-old fired seven shutout innings to register the win in a 4-3 decision at Minnesota on April 26.

The right-hander, who becomes the second Rangers hurler to win the Rookie of the Month award in as many seasons, held opponents to a .239 average while recording 15 strikeouts in 17 innings.

Yu Darvish captured the award for April of last season.

Other players considered included fellow Ranger Nick Tepesch, Houston's Brandon Barnes, Conor Gillaspie of the Chicago White Sox and and Los Angeles Angels pitcher Dane De La Rosa.
