St. Louis, MO (SportsNetwork.com) - New York Rangers defenseman Dan Boyle suffered a broken hand during Thursday's season opener against St. Louis.
The Rangers said Boyle would be sidelined for the next 4-to-6 weeks.
Boyle, making his Rangers debut after signing as a free agent in July, was hurt while blocking a shot in the third period of the 3-2 Rangers win.
The 38-year-old Ottawa native spent the past six seasons with San Jose and has also played for Florida and Tampa Bay since making his NHL debut during the 1998-99 season. He won a Stanley Cup with the Lightning in the spring of 2004 and has 144 goals and 561 points in 955 NHL games.
