Oakland, CA – The Oakland Raiders signed veteran defensive lineman Andre Carter on Wednesday.
Carter was selected to his first Pro Bowl in 2011 as a member of the New England Patriots, racking up 51 tackles, 10 sacks and two forced fumbles over 14 games.
A first-round pick (seventh overall) of the San Francisco 49ers in 2001, the 12th-year veteran has played in 163 games -- including 147 starts -- with the 49ers, Washington Redskins and Patriots, totaling 76 sacks, 26 passes defensed, 17 forced fumbles and four fumble recoveries.
Carter missed the Patriots' final two regular-season games, as well as the entire postseason, after suffering a quadriceps injury last December.
The Raiders also waived offensive lineman Joe Barksdale and added wide receiver Tori Gurley to the practice squad.
