The Oakland Raiders are reportedly set to acquire quarterback Carson Palmer from the Cincinnati Bengals prior to Tuesday's NFL trade deadline.
According to Fox Sports, the Raiders will send a first-round pick in the 2012 draft and a conditional future selection for the disgruntled Palmer, who had made good on his threat to retire if the Bengals did not trade him.
Bengals president Mike Brown said in late July he would not trade Palmer, who had originally requested a deal after the 2010 season and has four years remaining on his contract.
The Raiders are in need of a quarterback after losing Jason Campbell for at least six weeks with a fractured collarbone. Campbell was hurt during this past Sunday's game against Cleveland and could miss the remainder of the season.
Oakland's other quarterbacks are currently Kyle Boller and rookie Terrelle Pryor. The Raiders are off to a 4-2 start and sit one-half game behind San Diego in the AFC West.
The Bengals haven't missed Palmer, as the club is also 4-2 with rookie quarterback Andy Dalton at the helm.
Palmer completed 61.8 percent of his passes for 3,970 yards with 26 touchdowns and 20 interceptions last year, when the Bengals followed up a surprise 2009 division title with a dismal 4-12 mark. He has passed for more than 4,000 yards twice during his career and also helped Cincinnati to a division crown after the 2005 season.
The 31-year-old Southern California product is a native of northern California, having been born in Fresno. He won the 2002 Heisman Trophy at USC and was selected by the Bengals with the first overall pick of the 2003 draft.
Palmer has passed for 22,694 yards with 154 touchdowns and 100 interceptions in 97 NFL games. He missed most of the 2008 season with an elbow injury and suffered a pair of torn knee ligaments in the opening quarter of a playoff game against Pittsburgh after the 2005 season, and returned in time for the 2006 campaign.
