The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim announced slugger Albert Pujols will miss the remainder of the season due to a tear in the plantar fascia in his left foot.

Pujols has been hobbled by plantar fasciitis for most of the season and has not played since July 26.

The 33-year-old first baseman batted .258 with 17 homers and 64 RBI in 99 games this season, his second in Southern California. This will be the lowest season average in the career of Pujols, a three-time NL MVP when he played in St. Louis.

Angels outfielder Mike Trout was out of the starting lineup for Monday's game against Cleveland due to tightness in his right hamstring.
