PSG restores seven-point gap with Rennes defeat

PSG restored its seven-point cushion at the top of the Ligue 1 table on Saturday, riding two second-half goals to a 2-0 defeat of Rennes at the Stade de la Route de Lorient.

Marseille had cut PSG's lead to just four points with a 1-0 victory over Bordeaux on Friday, but Saturday's win lifts the leaders to 64 points through 31 matches.

Jeremy Menez produced what turned out to be the game-winning goal in the 56th minute, making a weaving run through the Rennes defense before cooly slotting his shot into the bottom corner.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic made sure of the victory by making it two for PSG in the third minute of stoppage time.

While PSG is unbeaten in its last four league games, Rennes has lost three Ligue 1 contests in a row to remain stuck on 42 points.

Nice snapped a two-game slide and jumped up to fourth place in the table on Saturday, claiming an entertaining 4-3 win at Toulouse.

The visitors held the lead heading into the final 10 minutes when Ben Yedder equalized at the 90-minute mark despite Ali Ahamada's sending off in the 82nd minute. Nice was dealt a blow in the second minute of stoppage time when Alexy Bosetti was given his marching orders, but the club overcame the adversity to take all three points thanks to Kevin Anin's strike a minute later.

Bastia cruised to a 4-0 victory over 10-man Brest at the Stade Armand-Cesari on Saturday. The home side was up three goals by the 71st minute thanks to Wahbi Khazri and a brace from Florian Thauvin. Johan Hartock was sent off for Brest in the 77th minute and Anthony Modeste added insult to injury for the visitors by converting a penalty kick in the 79th minute.

Elsewhere in Ligue 1 action on Saturday, Montpellier scored twice in the final 30 minutes to claim a 3-1 victory over Valenciennes, Romain Grange scored the lone goal in Nancy's 1-0 defeat of Troyes and Sochaux was held to a 0-0 home draw by visiting Ajaccio.
