Prugh ahead by 2 at Price Cutter Charity Championship

Springfield, MO – Alex Prugh shot 4-under-par 68 on Saturday and grabbed a 2-stroke lead entering the final round of the Price Cutter Charity Championship.

Prugh, who is seeking his second Web.com Tour win and first since 2009, finished 54 holes at Highland Springs Country Club at 16-under-par 200.

"It seemed like one of those scrambling rounds," said Prugh. "I was pretty fortunate to get 4-under out of it."

Hunter Haas and Miguel Angel Carballo shared the lead with Prugh when the suspended second round concluded Saturday morning, but they shot 70 and 72, respectively, to fall off the pace.

Haas, the 2010 champion, dropped into second place alongside Daniel Chopra (66), Andrew Svoboda (66) and Fernando Mechereffe (67) at 14-under. That group is one stroke ahead of Jason Gore, who carded a 66 to move into solo sixth.

Carballo fell into a tie for seventh with seven others at 12-under.

The tournament is finally back on schedule after heavy rain delayed its start by five-plus hours on Thursday. Both the first and second rounds were suspended due to darkness, with half the field still on the course when play was called Friday.

Prugh, Haas and Carballo shared the overnight lead and they were still on top when the second round concluded Saturday morning.

Teeing off in the same group, the trio opened the third round with matching birdies, but Prugh quickly found himself two back at the next when he bogeyed and his playing partners birdied.

Prugh, though, made up the difference by the turn, mixing five pars with birdies at Nos. 3 and 8 to pull even with Haas, who was even-par with a birdie and a bogey over that span. Carballo, meanwhile, had six pars and a bogey to sit a shot off the lead at 13-under.

Around the turn, Prugh was handed the lead when Haas bogeyed the 10th, and the margin held when both players birdied No. 11. Carballo also birded the 11th, but he closed with five pars and a pair of bogeys to fall off the pace.

Prugh held steady from the 11th with five straight pars as Haas seized, then squandered the lead, firing back-to-back birdies from the 13th before stumbling to consecutive bogeys from the 15th.

When the dust settled on Haas' inconsistent run, Prugh still held a 1-stroke lead, and he doubled it at the 17th by draining a 50-footer for birdie.

"I missed a couple of birdie putts coming in but at the same time I got that gift at 17. I almost had to have the pin tended. I just took a whack at it. It went left and with the last rotation it went in. I just started laughing, there's nothing you can do. It's just a bonus shot," admitted Prugh, who parred the last to retain the 2-stroke lead.

NOTES: Prugh missed the cut in his previous start (Mylan Classic) ... Prugh's last Web.com Tour win came at the 2009 Michael Hill New Zealand Open ... His best finish on tour this season is a tie for second at the Mexico Championship in May. He finished solo third at the Air Capital Classic in June ...
