A pro bass angler reeled in bragging rights when he broke a 27-year-old record for the largest blue catfish catch last week in the El Capitan Reservoir.
Cameron Smith, a pro bass angler from California netted a 48.25-pound blue catfish, breaking the fishing spot's record by nearly three pounds, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
While the blue catfish may seem small compared to the 113.40 record held in the nearby San Vicente waters, he was released and has a shot at eclipsing the previous mark.
The previous record was set April 27, 1986, with the blue catfish weighing 45.31 pounds, San Diego Union-Tribune reported.
