Presnell leads United Leasing Championship

Evansville, IN – Australian Alistair Presnell posted his second straight 4-under 68 on Friday to take the second-round lead of the United Leasing Championship at Victoria National Golf Club.

He finished 36 holes at 8-under 136 and is one stroke ahead at a steamy hot Victoria National Golf Club.

Two-time U.S. Open champion Lee Janzen (70), David Lingmerth (70) and Brian Stuard (67) share second place at minus-7.

Chris Riley (66), Derek Fathauer (68) and Martin Piller (71) are knotted in fifth at 6-under 138.

The thermometer reached 107 degrees on Friday, but Presnell persevered.

"The heat played a factor today. It was unbelievably hot," said Presnell. "We just haven't experienced this kind of heat yet this year but I've played on the Asian Tour and that's 10 times hotter than this."

Presnell began on the 10th tee Friday and birdied his first hole. After two pars, the Aussie birdied the 13th, but dropped a shot at the par-5 15th. Presnell recovered quickly with a birdie at No. 16, but a bogey at 17 dropped him to 5-under par.

Presnell got to 7-under with back-to-back birdies at the second and third holes. He bogeyed the par-3 fifth, but polished off his round with two birdies in a row at Nos. 8 and 9.

"Yesterday was probably the best I've hit it for a long time, maybe 18 months," said Presnell, who tied for third at this year's Soboba Golf Classic. "Today it wasn't far off. It was off just a little bit but it was still pretty good."

Andres Gonzales (67), Justin Bolli (69), Will MacKenzie (70), Morgan Hoffman (68), Roger Tambellini (68) and Michael Connell (69) share eighth at 5-under 139.

First-round leader Omar Uresti struggled to a 3-over 75 and fell into a tie for 14th at minus-4.

NOTES: Presnell has one Nationwide Tour victory and it came at the 2009 Moonah Classic...This is the first year of the event...Due to the soaring temperatures, tee times were moved up on Saturday with players going out in threesomes off both the first and 10th tees...The 36-hole cut fell at 1-under 143 and Casey Wittenberg, who is second on the Web.com Tour money list, missed the mark.
