Porto topples Penafiel

Lisbon, Portugal (SportsNetwork.com) - FC Porto remained within six points of Portuguese Liga leaders Benfica by securing a 3-1 win at Penafiel behind first-half goals from Hector Herrera and Jackson Martinez.

Herrera and Martinez scored three minutes apart in the first half before Rabiola pulled a goal back for Penafiel early in the second half. But Oliver Torres scored just after the hour mark to hand Porto a fourth successive victory.

The scoring was opened on the half-hour mark by Herrera and Martinez followed up three minutes later with his league-leading 14th goal of the campaign to hand the visitors a 2-0 halftime lead.

Rabiola's goal in the opening five minutes of the second half gave the hosts some hope, but Torres restored Porto's two-goal advantage in the 61st minute and the visitors coasted home from there, leaving Penafiel just two points above last-place Gil Vicente.

Benfica rolled to a ninth straight win by hammering Maritimo, 4-0, behind two goals from Eduardo Salvio and one goal each from Ola John and Lima.

Sporting Lisbon kept pace with the top two sides by downing Rio Ave, 4-2, with Sporting getting second-half goals from Fredy Montero, Joao Mario and Junya Tanaka.

Guimaraes cruised to a 4-0 victory over Academica with first-half goals from Ricardo Valente, Andre Andre and Tomane before Hernani scored in the final 10 minutes to cap the scoring. The loss keeps Academica in 16th place in the league table, three points above Gil Vicente in last place.

Belenenses used goals from Pele and Deyverson in the opening 40 minutes to top Gil Vicente, 2-0, Kleber scored on both sides of halftime to help Estoril to a 2-1 comeback win at Boavista, Vitor Gomes scored the lone goal in Moreirense's 1-0 win over Arouca, Nacional built a three-goal lead against Pacos Ferreira before holding on for a 3-2 win as Jonathan Urretaviscaya scored twice in the closing minutes for Pacos, while Braga scored three times in the second half to overcome a 1-0 deficit for a 3-1 triumph at Setubal.
