Detroit, MI – Pittsburgh Pirates pitcher Jason Grilli was placed on the bereavement list before Sunday's game against Detroit.
Grilli is 1-1 with a 2.25 earned run average in 17 relief appearances this season. He allowed an unearned run in one inning during Saturday's 4-3 win against the Tigers.
The 35-year-old right-hander is in his second season with the Pirates after missing all of the 2010 season recovering from right knee surgery and last year was 2-1 with a 2.48 ERA in 28 games.
Pittsburgh recalled lefty Jeff Locke from Triple-A Indianapolis. Locke is 3-3 with a 3.02 ERA in eight starts for Indianapolis.
