Philadelphia, PA (SportsNetwork.com) - Pittsburgh Pirates third baseman Pedro Alvarez will likely miss the remainder of the regular season after he was diagnosed with a stress reaction in the fourth metatarsal in his left foot, the team announced on Wednesday.
The typical recovery time for this type of injury is 4-to-6 weeks.
Alvarez initially injured his foot on Aug. 26 against the Cardinals. He made a pinch-hitting appearance on Friday against the Cubs.
Alvarez is hitting .231 with 18 homers and 56 RBI in 122 games this season.
