The Philadelphia Phillies have removed the interim tag from manager Pete Mackanin and signed him to a contract extension through the 2016 season, the team announced Tuesday.
The deal includes a team option for 2017.
Mackanin, who began the season as the team's third-base coach, took over as interim manager when Ryne Sandberg surprisingly resigned on June 26.
The Phillies are 30-46 under Mackanin's leadership.
Mackanin briefly managed the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2005, and the Cincinnati Reds for part of the 2007 season. His career managerial record is 83-99.
Philadelphia still is looking for a general manager after dismissing Ruben Amaro Jr. was dismissed earlier this month. Assistant general manager Scott Proefrock is serving as interim GM.
