Right-hander Alec Asher, among the players acquired in the blockbuster deal for Cole Hamels, will make his major league debut on Sunday for the Philadelphia Phillies.
One of five prospects the Phillies received from the Texas Rangers, Asher will face the San Diego Padres as he takes the starting slot of struggling veteran Jerome Williams.
The 23-year-old Asher went 2-0 with a 2.08 ERA in four starts at Triple-A Lehigh Valley. He is coming off his best performance since joining the Phillies, tossing seven scoreless innings of five-hit ball last Saturday.
Asher becomes the second acquisition from the Hamels trade to earn a promotion to the majors. Jerad Eickhoff has split his first two starts, throwing six scoreless innings versus the Miami Marlins before giving up four runs (three earned) in six innings against the New York Mets.
