A person familiar with the search says Florida has spoken with Colorado State's Jim McElwain and set a meeting with the coach about the Gators' opening.

The person spoke with The Associated Press Tuesday on the condition of anonymity because the Gators have not publicly announced details of the coaching search.

The person says Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley is aboard a private charter flight that left Gainesville on Tuesday, landed in Joplin, Missouri, and then headed to Fort Collins, Colorado. Foley is scheduled to meet with McElwain later Tuesday.

Foley fired Will Muschamp on Nov. 16.

The 52-year-old McElwain is finishing his third season at Colorado State. He led the Rams to a 10-2 season was named the Mountain West Conference's coach of the year Tuesday.
