The New England Patriots have extended the contract of defensive lineman Kyle Love.

According to the Globe, and confirmed by agent Sean Stellato, Love was the recipient of a one-year extension with a maximum value of $3.1 million that includes a $500,000 signing bonus.

However, in 2012, Love is in line to make $540,000, the amount of the exclusive-rights free agent deal he inked previously.

Love originally joined the Patriots as a rookie free agent out of Mississippi State in 2010. He has 40 tackles and four sacks in 25 career games (14 starts) with New England. That includes 33 tackles and three sacks over 16 games in 2011.
