Valencia, Spain (SportsNetwork.com) - Daniel Parejo bagged a brace at the Mestalla on Sunday to help Valencia jump ahead of Sevilla with a 3-1 victory.
Parejo got the hosts off the mark after 18 minutes when he converted a penalty, and the lead was doubled just 15 minutes later when broke through for his second of the match.
Carlos Bacca pulled one back for Sevilla with a penalty in the 37th minute, and while the visitors were awarded another penalty four minutes later, Bacca missed to keep Valencia in front.
The hosts took advantage of the miss as Javi Fuego struck in the 56th minute to put the victory beyond any lingering doubt.
Valencia climbs to 41 points on the season to move into fourth place in the La Liga table, going two points clear of fifth-place Sevilla.
Elsewhere in Sunday's La Liga slate, Cristian Stuani scored two goals in the span of three minutes to put Espanyol in cruise control against Almeria, and Felipe Caicedo tacked on another in the 74th minute to seal a 3-0 victory.
Mikel San Jose thought he had done enough to grant Athletic Bilbao all three points when he broke a scoreless stalemate with a 70th-minute goal, but Javi Guerra answered just eight minutes later to see Malaga salvage a point from a 1-1 draw.
Finally, goals from Jose Rodriguez and Lucas erased Piti's early strike, but Robert Ibanez netted an 83rd-minute equalizer to see Granada claim a 2-2 draw at Deportivo.
