CHARLOTTE, N.C. – Former Panthers quarterback Jake Delhomme says Cam Newton is the right guy to get Carolina back to the Super Bowl.

Delhomme says Newton is "24 years old and let's see what happens the rest of the year, but I don't think there's any doubt this guy can certainly do it."

Carolina's career passing leader, Delhomme led the Panthers to their only Super Bowl appearance in 2003. He returned to the stadium Sunday for the first time since being released four years ago and banged the "keep pounding" drum before the Panthers played Atlanta.

Newton has eight total touchdowns and no turnovers in his last three games.

Delhomme says Newton is "talented and he throws the ball plenty good enough and his legs are dangerous. That's what makes him so scary."
