San Diego, CA – The San Diego Padres have selected the contract of pitcher Casey Kelly from Double-A San Antonio.
The 22-year-old right-hander is scheduled to make his major league debut when he starts Monday's series opener against the visiting Atlanta Braves.
Kelly went 0-2 with a 3.35 ERA in eight combined starts between rookie-level Peoria, San Antonio and Triple-A Tucson this year. The former Boston draft pick has struck out 39 and walked only three in 37 2/3 innings.
The Padres also reinstated pitcher Dale Thayer from the paternity list, optioned pitchers Brad Boxberger and Josh Spence to Tucson and transferred catcher Nick Hundley to the 60-day disabled list.
