Starke, FL (SportsNetwork.com) - Green Bay Packers defensive tackle Letroy Guion was arrested on felony drug and gun charges following a traffic stop in his hometown of Starke, Florida, on Tuesday night, police said.
According to a news release, an officer who stopped Guion for failure to maintain a lane smelled a strong odor of marijuana coming from the player's pickup truck. Guion was found to be carrying 357 grams of marijuana as well as $190,000 in cash inside his vehicle. Police uncovered a 9mm semi-automatic handgun during the search.
Guion was subsequently charged with possession of marijuana over 20 grams and possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, a third-degree offense.
Police said Guion was "extremely uncooperative and hostile" during the search of his truck and "kept coming towards the vehicle several times saying 'hey, man, my money is in there. Don't let him take my money.'"
Guion then rushed the truck in an attempt to remove the bag containing the marijuana from the front passenger seat before being restrained in hand cuffs, according to the release.
The 27-year-old was later released from custody on $100,000 bond.
The Packers issued a statement saying, "We are aware of a serious matter involving Letroy Guion. We have not yet spoken to Letroy and we will have no further comment."
Guion started all 18 of the Packers' games, including a pair of playoff outings, this past season, his first with Green Bay following a six-year stint with the Minnesota Vikings. He is slated to become an unrestricted free agent in March.
The 315-pound lineman recorded a career-best 3 1/2 sacks along with 32 tackles this past season.
