London, England (SportsNetwork.com) - Arsenal was dealt a big injury blow on Wednesday as it was determined that midfielder Mesut Ozil with miss the next "10 to 12 weeks" due to ruptured ligaments in his left knee, it was confirmed by the German Football Federation (DFB).

Ozil played the entire 90 minutes against Chelsea in Arsenal's 2-0 defeat on Sunday, but he arrived in Germany for international duty on Tuesday ahead of the team's upcoming Euro 2016 qualifiers and was sent to have an MRI.

The 25-year-old didn't take part in training with the German national team on Tuesday, and after undergoing tests, it was determined that he will miss up to three months.

A statement from the DFB read: "The Arsenal playmaker already complained about pains in his left knee when arriving at Frankfurt.

"A MRI scan at team doctor Dr. Hans-Wilhelm Muller-Wohlfahrt today revealed a partial lateral collateral ligament tear in the left knee.

"The treatment will be non-operative with a six-week immobilization of the knee. Mesut Ozil is likely to be out for 10 to 12 weeks."

Ozil has not been in top form this season for the Gunners since returning from the World Cup as he has managed just one goal and one assist in league play so far this term.

The injury will keep him out of key fixtures against Manchester United and Liverpool in league play, while he will also miss out on a big Champions League contest with Borussia Dortmund.
