The Baltimore Orioles placed designated hitter Jim Thome on the 15-day disabled list Tuesday with a herniated disc in his neck.

Acquired in a trade from Philadelphia, Thome is batting .261 with two home runs and six RBI in 18 games with the Orioles.

To fill his roster spot, the Orioles activated infielder Robert Andino from the 15-day DL.

Andino had been sidelined with a left shoulder strain. He was hitting .230 in 79 games before landing on the DL earlier this month.
