The injury-plagued Edmonton Oilers have lost another player -- center Sam Gagner is gone for the rest of the season.
Gagner's left hand was cut by a teammate during Wednesday's 5-0 loss to the Capitals on Wednesday. He had the hand bandaged and continued playing, but had surgery on Thursday. The team said via Twitter that he will miss the rest of the season.
Gagner is the second Oiler in a week to go down with a season-ending injury. No. 1 draft pick Taylor Hall suffered a high ankle sprain last Friday and won't play again until 2011-12. The Oilers have been without their top defenseman, Ryan Whitney, since January due to an ankle injury that required surgery.
The 21-year-old Gagner finished the season with 15 goals and 42 points in 68 games, but was minus-17 on the last-place Oilers.
