Minor league baseball teams can get very creative when coming up with promotions during the season to attract fans to the ballpark. An Ohio team is taking full advantage of one NBC anchor’s latest woes.
The Akron RubberDucks announced Wednesday they have scheduled “Brian Williams’ Pants-on-Fire Night” for April 27. The date coincides with National Tell a Story Day, according to the team.
The theme is supposed to poke fun at Williams’ latest troubles at the network after being suspended for six months without pay following his continued misrepresentation of events surrounding his coverage of the Iraq War.
The first 100 fans at the park that night will receive a special pair of suspenders. Akron will host on-field contests, including “To Tell the Truth,” and “Two Truths and a Brian Williams,” based off the game “Two Truths and a Lie.”
Between innings, fans will be able to audition to be a TV news anchor. Fans will vote on the winner and the results will then be sent to NBC, according to the team.
Lastly, a pair of pants said to be from Williams will be burned.
