Northern Arizona names Scangarello offensive coordinator
Flagstaff, AR – Northern Arizona football coach announced Monday that Rich Scangarello has been named the Lumberjacks' new offensive coordinator.
Scangarello most recently served as the offensive coordinator, assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach at Millsaps College in Jackson, Miss. He replaces Brian Lindgren, who left Northern Arizona to join the staff at San Jose State.
Previously, Scangarello spent seven years at UC Davis and was the co-offensive coordinator for the 2008 season, leading an offense that ranked 11th in the FCS in total offense at 426.5 yards per game.
He was on the Oakland Raiders staff as the assistant quarterbacks coach and offensive quality control assistant in 2009. He also coached at Idaho for two stints in 2000 and 2002-03, coaching Lindgren during his college career.
"Rich Scangarello is a great teacher, believes in the academic-athletic model and has coached in a system very similar to ours," Souers said. "He has diverse experience at all levels from the NFL to the small college and I think he can reach different kids at different abilities. I think his leadership will complement the personnel we have on offense."
Northern Arizona also named Jeff Lewis as its new wide receivers coach. He is a member of the Big Sky Conference school's Athletic Hall of Fame, having been a standout quarterback for the Lumberjacks from 1992-95.
Northern Arizona is coming off a 4-7 season.
