KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee is using the possibility of unveiling gray alternate uniforms as motivation to reach the Southeastern Conference tournament final.
Before Tuesday's practice, Tennessee's coaches showed the sixth-ranked Lady Vols the alternate uniforms and said they could wear the new gear if Tennessee reached the SEC championship game Sunday. The Lady Vols might only be able to wear gray if they're the lower seed in the championship game because the SEC typically requires the higher-seeded team to wear the lighter-shaded uniform.
The color is similar to gear Tennessee's football team wore against Georgia and Vanderbilt last season. The school describes the color as "Smokey gray," a nod to the team's mascot.
Tennessee is the No. 2 seed in the SEC tournament, which starts Wednesday at Duluth, Ga.
