Averee Fields had 18 points, Bria Holmes added 15 and No. 22 West Virginia dominated the first half for a 67-53 win over Fairfield on Saturday.

The Mountaineers (4-1) opened a 32-11 lead at the half, holding the Stags (1-5) to 16.7 percent shooting (4-14), forcing 16 turnovers and blocking five shots.

Kristin Schatzlein had to hit a 3-pointer 1:46 before the break to have more points than Holmes, who had 10.

Schatzlein led Fairfield with 17 points, hitting four 3's.

West Virginia kept the lead above 20 points until Fairfield had a strong finish, making 16 of 27 shots in the second half.

Teana Muldrow added 10 points for the Mountaineers, Linda Stepney had 10 assists and Holmes and Crystal Leary had seven rebounds.

Fairfield finished with 25 turnovers and was out-rebounded 42-21.
