No. 19 Michigan downs Oregon in Legends Classic

Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Zak Irvin scored 19 points to help No. 19 Michigan defeat Oregon, 70-63, in the Progressive Legends Classic on Monday.

Caris LeVert tallied 18 points and Ricky Doyle registered 10 points off the bench for the Wolverines (4-0), who will play No. 12 Villanova in the final on Tuesday.

"We did a great job. We were trying to do the best we could to stop them defensively, and we did get a lot of stops," said Michigan head coach John Beilein.

LeVert went just 3-of-13 from the floor, but he managed to make 11 of his 13 shots from the foul line.

The Wildcats defeated No. 14 VCU, 77-53, earlier in the night to punch their ticket to the championship game.

Joseph Young netted 20 points for the Ducks (3-1), while Dillon Brooks and Elgin Cook supplied 14 and 13, respectively.

"The guys played hard. We just didn't play very smart and that's my fault," Oregon head coach Dana Altman. "We didn't run the offense the way we should have. We gave up a lot of easy baskets and that's my job to prevent that."

Young and Ahmaad Rorie each knocked down a 3-pointer around a pair of free throws from LeVert to cut the Oregon deficit to 50-46 midway through the second half.

Brooks' dunk made it a one-point game prior to the four-minute media timeout. After each team traded a pair of free throws, LeVert converted a three-point play to give the Wolverines a 61-57 lead with three minutes on the clock.

Young followed with two at the line, but Irvin nailed a 3-pointer and Doyle put the game away with his layup less than a minute later as Michigan held on.

Brooks hit a 3 to tie the game at 25-25 late in the first half, then Michigan ended the frame on an 8-2 run to grab a 33-27 lead at the break.

A three-point play by Cook tied the game at 40-40 with under 14 minutes left in the second half, but Michigan followed with eight straight points.
