New York, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - The NHL fined Boston Bruins forward Shawn Thornton $2,820 on Sunday for squirting Montreal defenseman P.K. Subban in the face with water during Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
No penalty was assessed after Thornton sprayed Subban from the bench in the final minute of Boston's 4-2 win on Saturday, which gave the Bruins a 3-2 lead in the series.
The fine -- the maximum permitted under the collective bargaining agreement -- money goes to the players' emergency assistance fund.
