Newcastle continued its busy transfer window by announcing the signing of Swiss teenager Kevin Mbabu on a three-and- a-half-year contract on Thursday.

The 17-year-old defender becomes Newcastle's sixth signing of the transfer window, joining Mathieu Debuchy, Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa, Massadio Haidara, Yoan Gouffran and Moussa Sissoko in linking up with the Magpies.

Mbabu had a recent trial with Newcastle and impressed enough to be offered a contract with the Premier League outfit.

"Today is a big day for me," said Mbabu. "I've always wanted to sign for a club in the Premier League and Newcastle is one of the biggest there is.

"I want to finish my development here with the reserves before one day training with the first team and hopefully breaking into the first team."
