Brooklyn, NY (SportsNetwork.com) - Brooklyn Nets point guard Deron Williams had successful surgery on both of his ankles Tuesday and is expected to make a full recovery in time for training camp.
Williams had arthroscopic surgery on his left ankle to remove spurs from the front and back of the ankle and to clean out the ankle joint. The surgery on his right ankle removed a loose bone fragment that was below the ankle joint.
He will spend 4-to-6 weeks on crutches and then begin rehab, said the doctor who performed the surgeries, Nets foot and ankle specialist Martin O'Malley.
O'Malley said Williams will begin light court activities in August and will be ready for full basketball activities in September.
Plagued by ankle problems, Williams was limited to 64 regular-season games in 2013-14 and averaged 14.3 points and 6.1 assists -- his lowest numbers since he was a rookie in 2005-06.
The three-time All-Star averaged 14.5 points and 5.8 assists in 12 playoff games for the Nets, who were eliminated by Miami in the Eastern Conference semifinals.
Williams, 29, completed the second season of a five-year, $98 million contract he signed with the Nets in July of 2012.
