Paris, France (SportsNetwork.com) - Rafael Nadal has decided to withdraw from next week's Paris Masters.

The tournament on Friday said the Spanish superstar pulled out for personal reasons.

Nadal is playing this week in Basel, but has missed time recently with a wrist injury and is also battling appendicitis.

While Nadal has won the French Open in Paris nine times, he has never won the Masters event in the fall. He lost to David Ferrer in last year's semifinals and his best result in four tries was a loss to David Nalbandian in the 2007 final.

Pablo Andujar will replace Nadal in the draw.

U.S. Open champion Marin Cilic and Ernests Gulbis also pulled out of next week's event. Cilic has an injured right arm and will be replaced by Jerzy Janowicz, while Gulbis has a shoulder injury and was placed by Vasek Pospisil.
