Toronto, ON (SportsNetwork.com) - Former world No. 2 and two-time champion Andy Murray was an easy second-round winner Wednesday at the Rogers Cup, a Masters 1000 tournament.
After enjoying an opening-round bye, the eighth-seeded British star blew past promising 19-year-old Aussie wild card Nick Kyrgios 6-2, 6-2 on Day 3 at Rexall Centre.
Murray captured this event back-to-back in 2009 and 2010.
Meanwhile, 12th-seeded Frenchman and 2012 Toronto runner-up Richard Gasquet overcame 6-foot-10 Croat Ivo Karlovic 5-7, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3, 13th-seeded former top-10 star Jo-Wilfried Tsonga foiled fellow Frenchman Jeremy Chardy 7-6 (8-6), 6-4 and France's Julien Benneteau upended 11th-seeded Latvian Ernests Gulbis 7-6 (6-4), 6-3 on the hardcourts at this U.S. Open Series event.
Also, 6-foot-8 South African Kevin Anderson upset 16th-seeded Italian Fabio Fognini 7-5, 6-2 and on-the-mend Croat Ivan Dodig outlasted Italian Andreas Seppi 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5).
The winner of this $3.145 million tournament will earn $600,000.
