ORANGEBURG, S.C. – Greg Mortimer converted a four-point play in the final minute of regulation and hit another 3-pointer in overtime as South Carolina State beat North Carolina A&T 75-70 on Monday.
North Carolina A&T led by five with 59 seconds left in regulation until Mortimer's 3-pointer and free throw started 7-0 South Carolina State run. Lamont Middleton pushed the game into overtime with two free throws with a second remaining.
Another Mortimer 3-pointer gave SC State the lead for good, with 2:19 left in overtime, as the Bulldogs did not allow a NC A&T field goal in the final 3 minutes.
Matthew Hezekiah scored 17 points, on 8-of-11 shooting, and grabbed 12 rebounds for South Carolina State (9-16, 5-7 Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference). The Bulldogs held a 44-31 advantage on the glass.
Middleton scored 24 points for North Carolina A&T (8-19, 4-8). The Aggies have lost five of its last six games.
