OXFORD, Mississippi (Reuters) - A University of Mississippi American football player has died in hospital after collapsing during the first day of the team's routine conditioning workouts.
Bennie F. Abram began experiencing difficulties 15 minutes into the early session on Friday and trainers began to administer aid and called emergency services. He was taken to Baptist Memorial Hospital by ambulance.
"Bennie was a fine young man and a hard worker," said Ole Miss Head Football Coach Houston Nutt in a statement on the school's website (www.olemisssports.com).
"He was a great person to be around and a well-mannered young man. His loss is so tragic. Our hearts and prayers go out to the family and all who knew Bennie."
