MANKATO, Minn. – A former Minnesota State linebacker is hospitalized in critical condition after an alleged assault involving former Minnesota Gophers quarterback Philip Nelson.
The Mayo Clinic says Isaac Dallas Kolstad, of Mankato, is in critical condition Monday.
Nelson was jailed after police said officers came across the 24-year-old Kolstad while patrolling around 2 a.m. Sunday. The 20-year-old Nelson was arrested at the scene.
A candlelight vigil for Kolstad was held at Minnesota State University in Mankato on Sunday night.
Nelson left the Gophers in January to transfer to Rutgers, which is moving to the Big Ten next season.
