Melzer, Hewitt ousted in Winston-Salem

Salem, NC (Sports Network) - No. 2 seed Jurgen Melzer of Austria and Salem Open.

Melzer was sent packing by Russian Igor Andreev 7-5, 6-3 in a second round match on the hardcourts at Wake Forest University.

Hewitt, the two-time Grand Slam champion, dropped a 6-4, 7-6 (7-3) decision to Slovakia's Blaz Kavcic in one of 11 first round matches held Monday.

In the only other second round match, eighth-seeded Marco Baghdatis of Cyprus handled American Ryan Sweeting, 7-5, 6-1 Andreev popped eight aces and broke Melzer's serve three times en route to the upset.

The winner of this final U.S. Open tuneup will collect $74,630.
