Turkey's FM: New Turkish Cypriot leader will continue peace talks with rival Greek Cypriots

NICOSIA, Cyprus (AP) — Turkey's Foreign Minister says newly-elected Turkish Cypriot leader Dervis Eroglu will continue reunification talks with rival Greek Cypriots.

Ahmet Davutoglu said on Friday that Eroglu has Turkey's full support. Eroglu repeated he would not abandon negotiations.Eroglu, a hardliner, defeated leftist incumbent Mehmet Ali Talat in a poll Sunday for the presidency of the breakaway Turkish Cypriot north.His win raised fears it could scuttle long-running peace negotiations between Talat and the President of the internationally-recognized Greek Cypriot south, Dimitris Christofias.Davotoglu was in the north to attend Eroglu's oath of office ceremony.Cyprus was split in 1974 when Turkey invaded after a coup by supporters of union with Greece ....
